Timeline of the Israel-Gaza Conflict

A Complex History

The conflict between Israel and Gaza has a long and complex history, spanning more than two centuries. The seeds of the conflict were sown in the 19th century, when the British Empire took control of the region. The British established a Jewish state in Palestine, which led to tensions with the local Arab population.

The 20th Century

In 1948, the British Mandate of Palestine ended and the State of Israel was declared. The Arab-Israeli War of 1948 followed, leading to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. In 1967, Israel occupied Gaza during the Six-Day War. The occupation has been condemned by the United Nations and is considered illegal under international law.

The 21st Century

In 2005, Israel withdrew from Gaza, but it has maintained a blockade of the territory. The blockade has caused a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over 2 million people living in poverty. In 2014, the Gaza War erupted between Israel and Palestinian militant groups. The war resulted in the deaths of over 2,000 Palestinians and 70 Israelis.

The Present Day

The conflict between Israel and Gaza continues today. There have been numerous attempts to negotiate a peace settlement, but all have failed. The conflict is a major source of instability in the region and has had a devastating impact on the lives of Palestinians and Israelis alike.
