Shea Langeliers Ready for History Against Texas Rangers?

The Seattle Mariners' Shea Langeliers is Poised to Make History Against the Texas Rangers

Seattle Mariners' catcher Shea Langeliers is on the cusp of making history as he prepares to face the Texas Rangers on Saturday.

Langeliers, the Mariners' top prospect, is expected to make his Major League debut against the Rangers and could become the first catcher in MLB history to hit a home run in his first at-bat.

Langeliers' Impressive Minor League Career

Langeliers, 24, has been tearing up the minor leagues this season, batting .328 with 22 home runs and 71 RBIs in 76 games at Triple-A Tacoma.

He was named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Month for May and was selected to the MLB Futures Game.

Mariners' Catching Situation

The Mariners have been searching for a long-term solution at catcher since Mike Zunino left via free agency following the 2020 season.

Langeliers' arrival could provide the Mariners with a much-needed boost behind the plate.

Langeliers' Expectations

Langeliers expressed excitement about his upcoming debut and said he is not feeling any pressure.

"I'm just going to go out there and play my game," Langeliers said. "I'm not trying to do too much."

Rangers' Pitching Matchup

Langeliers will face Rangers' right-hander Dane Dunning in his debut.

Dunning has a 4.28 ERA in 18 starts this season.

History in the Making

If Langeliers hits a home run in his first at-bat, he will join an exclusive club of only 10 catchers in MLB history to accomplish the feat.

The most recent catcher to hit a home run in his first at-bat was Yasmani Grandal in 2012.
