The Memphis Grizzlies have signed Scotty Pippen Jr. to a two-way contract, the team announced today. Pippen Jr., born November 10, 2000, is an American professional basketball player who played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. He is the son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen.
Pippen Jr. spent the majority of last season playing on a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 11 games with the Lakers, he averaged 3.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He also played in 41 games for the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, where he averaged 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
Pippen Jr. is a dynamic guard who can score, rebound, and pass. He is also a strong defender. He is expected to add depth to the Grizzlies' backcourt, which already features Ja Morant, Tyus Jones, and Desmond Bane.
"We are excited to add Scotty to our team," Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said in a statement. "He is a talented young player who has a lot of upside. We believe he can be a valuable contributor to our team both on and off the court."
Pippen Jr. is expected to join the Grizzlies for training camp in September.
